Lets start off by saying that The Vapors were one of the most underrated bands of the 80s. 'Turning Japanese' lifted them up and then, well then nothing. What a shame.
The Vapors had so many great perk up songs that I found it difficult to choose one. The album Nu Clear Days released in 1980 was one of the best albums of the decade. With all the new sounds coming out during that time these poor kids got shelved. "News At Ten" was choice two for the perk up. Opted for "Trains", cuz I have a soft spot in my heart for them.
I can so clearly remember this entire album. I never got to see them live, I endured all the 'Turning Japanese' masturbation stories. I swear if David Fenton had bangs he'd have been a major swoon. He had rock and roll legs, we'll cover that some other time. The Vapors were The Jams kid brothers, similar but more innocent. Less known but from the same strong stock. They followed up Nu Clear Days with Magnets, it also kicked ass. You missed that one too.
Its days like today that make me wish I had a time machine to go back to that 14 year old Hel lacing up her Doc Martens and clomping through the suburbs like a punk rock Goddess. Wait, I still am one 30 years later, never mind.
