Saint Motel's Guitar Center Session And TV Appearance

Saint Motel had his first ever national TV appearance on Saturday night on the Audience Network on DirecTV channel 239. The quartet was filmed during a Guitar Center Session hosted by Nic Harcourt, and you can watch an excerpt of the show, a video of them playing the song ‘Puzzle Pieces’ here:

Remember about the song? The one which was joyously bouncing with a samba-like keyboard line, that one!

The Guitar Center Sessions include performances split with conversations between the band members and Nic Harcourt, during which they talked about Saint Motel’s early beginning (the film school episode), and how the band includes storytelling and movies in their music and incorporate a lot of visuals during their live energetic performances: with an analog piano, they have access to different imagery taken by wireless cameras placed on stage. They said they think about their shows as unique and visual, and soon they are gonna be 3D! However, music stays their first priority.

Their shows may be party-like but they are careful to install a balance between dark and happy, dark lyrics versus light tunes.
Nic Harcourt also talked about their DIY ethics, the pros and the cons to be part of a big label, the things bands have to do to make a living (commercials), and the opportunities to make money for a band.

Since the release of their 2009 EP, they have recorded 11 new songs, ‘Puzzle Pieces’ being the single given away for free download on line.

They concluded saying that Los Angeles provides a really healthy scene for bands right now, but they also said good things about New-York!

And what if you don’t have DirecTV like me? The sessions should be airing soon on other cable providers, but if you cannot wait anymore, the whole session is in fact on Vimeo:
