The exhibit ‘Art in the Streets’ about graffiti art is really dense and a second visit is quite necessary to absorb everything.
Thanks to Banksy, it’s free every Monday at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, and going back there I noticed these old flyers made by Raymond Pettibon for Black Flag’s shows, I hadn’t seen the first time.
Raymond Pettibon was an artist who was also featured in Thrasher, a skateboarding magazine, founded in 1981 by Kevin Thatcher, Eric Swenson and Fausto Vitello
. It was the first of its genre to embrace the rebellious image of punk rock; and so here is the connection between graffiti artists, skateboarders and punk rockers.
