Whatever really happened between Titus Andronicus and the Pogues – and you will have to read Spider Stacy’s comments to know more about that – Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles has declared to Spinner that the band Fucked Up is one of the main influences on his new material that may come out sometime in 2012.
The Fucked Up guys and gal were actually the openers for Titus Andronicus' show in Toronto, and Patrick raved about them:
‘They're pretty much my favorite band, because they're so solid and such a well-oiled machine, that allows the guitars to do things that a lot of other punk bands would have been afraid to attempt’.
‘The lyrics are really good as well, Damian] 'Pink Eyes' [Abraham] is an extremely captivating frontman. I generally don't really go for bands that have that sort of style of singing — I usually like a more melodic singer — but he really does it for me’.
For having seen these two bands live, I can say that they both release some tremendous amount of energy, and if they'd record and tour together? That would be balls of fire, potentially more explosive than dynamite.
Meanwhile, you can watch a video of them covering Sham 69’s ‘If the Kids are United’ in Toronto, on April 1st.
