The night at the Echoplex on Saturday night started with Catwalk, another one of these young Californian bands whose frontman Nick Hessler is only 19!
Although the band started as a one-man project, it is now a trio, which slowly built their quite unique sound of pop rock, reminding me many things at the same time, old and modern. It may have sounded more like some bright 70s pop songs inspired, almost Byrds-like, or at other time it was a fast strumming guitar and a pulsating catchy sound almost delivered with a young Elvis Costello’s impetuosity, although Nick Hessler was not moving a bit away from his standing mic.
A sort of urgency consummated in a shoegazing rype of way.
