| African bongos, steel drums, heavy beats, lots of guitar jams, some smooth synth, danceable rhythms almost new wavy at times, many ethereal oo-oos sung by a blond guy who looked a little like Luke Skywalker, the 5 young boys opening the evening at the Echo on Sunday night was called The Holidays.
Before they talked, their blondness and synth-pop sound had made me thought for a minute they were from a Nordic country, may be because of the Norwegian band A-ha, but not at all, as they revealed soon they were from Australia. They actually seemed to incorporate a lot of jazzy influences and their hybrid music, which relayed a lot on beats and some undeniable tropical or even Africanized fingerprints. They had tons of energy on stage and were bringing back a dreamy idea of piña colada drunk under palm trees, or this summer sunshine suddenly missing in LA,… well, with such a moniker, it was not a total surprise. |
