Superchunk "Digging For Something" and Grape Jelly

I don’t know why my first image when I hit the play buton was “Starman” by David Bowie, but the moment the vocals came in that got dashed.
Superchunk ” “Digging For Something”….

Touted (there ya go pals, I used the word ‘touted’, I win!) as the “indie band of the 90’s”, Superchunk has never gotten air time in my home until today.  Thanks to Iman’ admiration and off the wave of seeing them earlier this week with Bright Eyes, he sent this little demo to me.

OK… acoustic.  I like because I really like the pick on string sound, that mettalic sort of scratch.  So it gets some bonus points for that in itself.

Vocals… lets talk.
When you can see in your minds eye a man wince as he attempts a note of falsetto it can be annoying or endearing.  That squished up face lips pulled back as if its taking a team of mules to pull up the octave.
In this song it works but only because its sporadic the ‘uh uh ohhhh’s”, are easily ignored.  Basically the song as a song sounds like the closing theme song to a coming of age movie as the credit rolls.  Maybe like one of those 80s Molly Ringwald / Emelio Estevez ‘lost her virginity and her boyfriends parents get jobs and have to move to St Louis and Nebraska will never be the same….” type films.

Superchunk on wheat with a gob of grape please.  I’m gonnna go find some non-acoustic and see what I can conjure up.
