– Maggie I’ve Been Searching For Our Son – Craig Finn – Once every seven attempts, Finn nails it, this isn’t a masterpiece but it is a good song, nice riff he works well and a good lyric, better than most of the last Hold Steady and some of his first solo album – B+
– Newmeyer’s Roff – Craig Finn – Yeah, sure we know the lyric will be smart enough, sure it will, but so what? When he misses the song the vocal makes it wallpaper, this is somewhere in between, the riff has a good tune underneath it which doesn’t quite make itself felt – C+
– Honolulu Blues – Craig Finn – His best song ever at any time, a deadly serious think through of apostles and preaching, a magnificent thing – A+
– Balcony – Craig Finn – ANother great song, he watches his girl kissing another guy – A
– Our Whole Lives – The Hold Steady – A masterpiece coming of age songs. The best line? where he tells the girl he is dancing with to take three steps back – A
– Massive Nights – The Hold Steady – One of their biggest songs, an anthem to kill off the very concept of massive anthems – A
– Coming Up – Paul McCartney – Man, that lick rocks it… fantabulous – A
– Forbidden Nights – Darlene Love – Sha la la lala la – A
– Piss On Your Grave – Travi$ Scott – I kinda missed this the first time round, don’t know why, but this is better than nearly anything Kanye West has released this year – A
– Bring In The Clowns – Bucky Pizzarelli and Ed Laub – Beautiful indeed, try it – A
