A Few More Things About Kanye West’s Gig At Glastonbury

Kanye interrupted

The entire world knows, Kanye West performed in Glastonbury last night and has once again declared his delusion of grandeur, he is ‘the greatest living rock star’ (what’s new?), while covering (or should I say butchering?) Queens. His set was interrupted by a comedian in character wearing a Lee-zus shirt who said he ‘did it for Taylor Swift’, but whatever, I couldn’t care less about this clown. However there are a few details about the behind-the-scene that confirm once again his giant douchebaggery.

According to Contactmusic, Kanye West brought such a large entourage to the festival that other bands’ guestlists had to be restricted.

‘We were told we only had one guest each this time,’ said The Maccabees guitarist Felix White. ‘I’ve not got that many other friends who want to come, but I’m just making a point!’ And The Maccabees were not even performing on the same stage than Kanye.

‘We were told that this viewing platform’s been set up just for Kanye so he’s got hundreds and hundreds of guests apparently,’ added White. Meaning they built a special platform for his entourage, isn’t it a bit too much? Do they do that usually for a headliner? Probably not.

Then there is the performance, that I haven’t seen, but I wonder whether you can declare yourself the biggest rock star in the world when you sing over a recording. Just saying. And it’s not because you try to sing a rock-arena song – ‘Bohemian rhapsody’ – over a recording once again, that you can pull it… It was an insane choice, I want to believe he picked it because it has ‘rhap’ in the title. I watched a few seconds of it and I was amazed, what was that, karaoke night at Glastonbury bar?

And it’s weird how the critics are totally divided, it was either an earth-shaking or a boring performance, make your mind!

But this is the funniest part in all this: Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has revealed to the Independent that he wasn’t attending Kanye West’s set, because he ‘isn’t a fan of that kind of music’. He watched The Moody Blues instead and even got invited to perform alongside the band. I don’t blame him, but Eavis, was it worth the death threats?
