Tom Cruise, where has your career gone? Your last desperate effort ‘Knight and Day’ was the worst result for an action film of this type in 20 years! Everyone must have had realized how crazy you were since the Oprah couch incident, and the heated argument with Matt Lauer about Brooke Shields’ postpartum depression treatment and antidepressant drugs on the Today show! And I haven’t even mentioned the disturbing $cientology youtube videos…
In a last effort to revive his career, Cruise has taken the role of rocker Stacee Jaxx in a film adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘Rock of Ages’, that has just opened at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles.
Rock of Ages tells the love story between a small town girl and a LA rocker in 1987, a good excuse to listen to the worst arena-rock 80s hits, from Journey, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake, Pat Benatar.
According to NME, Cruise will play an ageing musician in the movie directed by Adam Shankman, who also chose a scientologist to play in his other movie musical ‘Hairspray’, in 2007.
Shankman said to the Toronto Sun: ‘I think we’re going to see him every drop the rock’ n’ roll god. He’s pouring himself in this part in a way I’ve never had an actor do. It’s pretty intense. Between the voice lessons, the incredible study… researching the period, it’s like 1987, just going there!’
Cruise is supposed to perform several rock songs, including Styx’s ‘Renegade’, Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’, and may be a duo with Anne Hathaway on Foreigner’s ‘I want to know what Love is’.
I am already imagining the SNL parodies, but will they even be necessary?
