Moment for moment, song for song, sun for sun, Saturday was a goodie at Governors Ball on Randalls Island, and this despite my missing both headliners (which I might have to do tonight as well, but less blithely). The sheer wealth of great sets was a real treat and surprise finds -come on down, Rustie, abounded. Clean Bandits were everything I hoped for and when was the last time you heard Bjork perform “Hyperballad”?
I am sorry I missed Flume, just a mistake, and Conor Oberst, my friend went to see him at MHOW (he went on at 1am and played two hours), she is an Oberst fanatic and wasn’t thrilled by him at Summerstage last year but was wowed last night.
The trick with Governors Ball is, if you like rock and indie, move between the Honda and Big Apple stages, and if you love dance and hip hop, the Gotham tent and GovBall Stage… more or less. Noel is at the GovBall stage today at 7pm so there are exceptions.Net year they may want to reconsider where they want to put EDM, the Gotham tent overflowed constantly. Kiesza’s set was a madhouse
The longest distance between two places is the Honda stage to the GovBall, six minutes in the daytime, twelve minutes at bight. If you’re going at night, stick to the sidewalk near the GobBall sign and cross over. It sounds counterintuitive but trust me on this. The best commute is between Govball and Gotham, relatively next to each other, I saw all of Bjork and missed little of SBTRKT.
