Let’s Active: rock nyc’s Concert Picks Week Of June 8th, 2015

belle-sebastian-31Look, face it, the new Belle And Sebastian is a dog with fleas, now move on with your life and check the Los Campesinos of pop folk (please, not the Pet Shop Boys) at Radio City on Wednesday: with Real Estate and Diarrhea Planet opening, it should  for one of the treats of the pop year.

Monday – Zane Carney – Mercury Lounge – A modern day Nils Lofgren takes a break from John Mayer’s band for this great venue gig.

Monday – Yeats At 150 – Town Hall – “A once-in-a-lifetime evening celebrating the 150th birthday of W.B. Yeats through poetry & song.” Hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick but don’t hold that against him: “balanced all, brought all to mind, the years to come seemed waste of breath, a waste of breath the years behind, in balance with this life, this death.”

Tuesday – Dave Matthews Band – Jones Beach – I saw em at MSG 20 years ago and walked out but if this was closer I’d take a peek.

Wednesday – Les Paul; 100th Anniversary – Hard Rock Cafe – Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Steve Miller, and more. Sold out of course.

Thursday – Tomas Doncker Band – The Classon Social Club – Performing Big Apple Blues

Thursday – Tim McGraw – Jones Beach – The first time I saw Tim, Taylor Swift was opening for him, this time Billy Currington. The second law of thermodynamics in action.

Friday – Paul Weller – Terminal 5 – The new album is a woofer and the venue sucks but he is terrific live.

Friday –  Tyler, The Creator – Irving Plaza – The new album is a woofer, the venue is a goodie and he is terrific live.

Friday – Ricky Nelson Remembered – The Iridium – Remembered by his sons I might add.

Saturday – Graham Parker – Highline Ballroom – So much more than the poor man’s Costello, go get Mercury Poisoning.

Saturday – Viet Cong – Music Hall Of Williamsburg With American Wrestler and Girl Band -a terrific hard alt rock line up.

Sunday – Barry Manilow – Prudential Center – Pay your respects before he calls it a career.
