– In Another World – Dwight Yoakam – A thriller where classic rock meets classic 80s fueled country rock, like Tom Petty if he was more county or maybe Bruce himself, a galloping beat and a powerful vocal – A

– Old Rock N Roll – Young Fathers – This works as an anthem for Young Fathers, like a line drawn in the sand, either you get it or these guys aren’t for you – A

– Until The Night Turns – Lord Huron – In which the indie rockers find the riff of the year, a Bo Diddley inspired beauty- A

– Grief – Earl Sweatshirt – In a year where so much hip hop wasn’t quite good enough, this powerful track is good enough – A

– Please Be With Me – Eric Clapton – Love as freedom – A+

– Never Had It – Young Thug – Best song on his new album, it is all rat-a-tat rap – A-

–  Living Zoo – Built To Spill – Alt rockers go on and on but they have the occasional song in em and here is one – B+

– How Can I – Laura Marling – She reeks of privilege the way Joni doesn’t, but this is as close to a child of Joni as you will find – A

– Love Me Again – Sam Lewis – The problem with Sam is that his problem is so soulful and beautiful, he makes twangy wangy like this sound special – B+

– Hold On, We’re Going Home – Drake – Perfect modern soul song – A+
