– Gimme All Your Love – Alabama Shakes – This isn’t a career maker, obviously, but it is a big big time soul song that should cement their position as simply one of the best young modernist soul bands in the business: it is where Talking Heads would have been heading if Al Green was the lead singer – A
– Dead Fox – Courtney Barnett – I have a ticket to see her in a coupla weeks… maybe I’ll blow it off – B-
– Evil – Tomas Doncker Band – A supreme version of a Howlin’ Wolf classic… – A
– I Knew You Were Trouble (Goat Version) – There is no reason on earth for this to be so hysterically funny. Even better when Infinities perform it – A
– Wolf – Kanye West – I can’t wait to hear the official release… where is it? – A
– Instant Crush – Natalie Imbruglia – A terrific version of a song almost lost in time – B+
– Enough – Reba McEntire – With Jennifer Nettles, who released a great album last year: this is so overblown it sounds like it just jumped out of “All The Days Of Our Lives” – B
– Stronger – Clean Bandits – Not the best thing they’ve ever done but as always, the arrangement makes it a whole smarter than it should be.
– Back Door Man – Tomas Doncker Band – A vocal tour de force – A
– Lucky Day – Tomas Doncker – Botched in the studio, I wish he would re-record it – B+
