10 Songs: Friday, April 24th, 2015

maxresdefault1 – The Separation – Ceremony – I missed this single a coupla weeks ago and catching up now, it is a little quiet for this form of music: more goth than punk, or hardcore. The one time I saw em live, Pissed Jeans blew em off stage (plus they had this weird  -Bthing where everybody surged on stage), any way: this isn’t bad but it is a bore – B

2 –Brandenburg Gate – Lou Reed And Metallica – Although I really did like the album at the time, I like it more now. It is loud and aggressively nasty and dark. Never before have the words ”small town girl” sounded so filled with dread – A-

3- Good Evening Mr. Waldheim – Lou Reed – A year after Reed died, nothing has changed – A

4 – Strangers In The Night – Frank Sinatra – Late period, Reprise masterstroke. Huge for him and without a slither of compromise – A

5 – Swell Content – Speedy Ortiz – I guess it is quite catchy and good enough, maybe I was too tough on em – B

6 – What A friend We have In Jesus – Amy Grant – Sounds like a country folk take on the classic hymn – A-

7 – English Girls Approximately – Ryan Adams – Off his new live at Carnegie Hall album –pretty much perfect – A

8 – Ecstatic Thoughts – San Ferni n – 51 seconds of awesome, I wish they’d done it for ten minutes – A

9 – When I’m Blind – Built To Spill – Man, I can’t hear these guys at all – C

10 – Do You – Spoon – The last album was way overrated but this song is a goodie – B+
