Kanye West’s “Wolves” Featuring Vic Mensa And Sia reviewed (Stream It Here)

Kanye West "Wolves"
Kanye West “Wolves”

I dunno, maybe Kanye West can do some wrong, this is the third new West track I’ve heard this year and I am not convinced any of em quite get it right.  A quick recap..

Only One – It’s OK, I guess, certainly heartfelt in its own creepy way, as Kanye talks with his Mom, who died during a facelift, and channels messages to his daughter. Pretty weird, but I wouldn’t mind but the song just isn’t good engh. McCartney sounds great by the way – .

Fourfivesecond – With Ree Ree and Macca, off the Rihanna album, and it is alright. It’s ok, you know, it is pleasant enough and I’ve got no kick against it but I’ve got no kick for it either: again, there is something off hand about the melody – B

Now “Wolves” which sounds like really weak “Runaway” (all that “I’m just bad for you” stuff) plus SILENCE a la Yeezus but to less effect (it is more affected than effective) and Vic Mensa who is talented, like a rapping Frank Ocean and buddies with Chance The Rapper (plus, this is better than “Iconic”) playing the Pusha T role. Sia howling on a low track is weird but not terrible.

“Wolves” is the opening track off West’s next album and it is a set up song for a banger, a moody downer. Perhaps in place it will sound great but here? A little bit of a downer,

Grade: B
