Manic Street Preachers Bible Thumping In April, 2015

Where's Richey?
Where’s Richey?

It was 21 years ago that Richey Edwards lead one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Welsh political mayhem and disaster stricken nutcases Manic Street Preachers, on a hunt for just how terrible life can be, the epically miserable hard rocking The Holy Bible. Never really thought of in these terms but it should have been, Richey was a brother to Kurt Cobain, an extreme, an intense, a clearly insane master rock star. Though as somebody recently said about another dead star: your legend, my friend, Richey was clearly something like both.

I saw MSP on one of the great line ups, MSP, Screaming Trees and Oasis at Jones Beach circa 1996, had front row too, and I haven’t seen them since, I had tickets a couple of times but for one reason or the other didn’t make it. Primal Scream and MSP are two of my favorite hard rock bands, call them second tier but great great great second tier.

So yes, I absolutely plan to go and see Manic Street Preachers play their best album (but very closely followed by Everything Must Go), still how are they gonna perform it with their lead singer dead 20 years? Is The Holy Bible the holy bible without Jesus?
