It appears that three more demos off Madonna’s upcoming album ‘Rebel Heart’ have leaked on line last Saturday, and this is hardly surprising. However, there would not be anything funny in the whole thing, if one of the tracks wasn’t addressed to another famous pop star. Usually, I don’t care about what Madonna put out, but one of the tracks, not ‘Never Let You Go’, not ‘Arioso’ but ‘Two Steps Behind Me’ is supposed to be about Lady Gaga, as the lyrics seem to imply: ‘You’re a copycat/Where is my royalty?/You’re a pretty girl/I’ll give you that/But stealing my recipe’… This is what was reported everywhere, and, although I don’t guarantee the authenticity of the following, the song allegedly continues with:
‘It’s an ugly look/Did you study me hard enough?/You’re never gonna be/You’re just a wannabe me/Like a sister all messed-up/who’s gonna help you out?/In your fantasy, you can try it all/But you can’t be me/You can walk the walk/Even talk the talk/But you’ll always be/Two steps behind me’… at least this is what Metro Lyrics report…
It is supposedly accompanied by a piano melody and I can imagine Madonna singing it, leaning on the piano and mean as hell. I am sorry but after a certain age this kind of bad mouth looks very bad with the wrinkles. ‘Copycat’ ‘wannabe me’, ‘you can’t be me’, for me, there is no doubt she is talking about Gaga, as she sounds like an angry and condescending old queen, whose is reviving schoolyard quarrels.
Of course, Madonna’s press representative, Guy Oseary has denied the whole thing on Twitter, saying ‘that song is NOT about gaga or anyone in particular’,…that ‘the song is an unfinished demo she had no intention of finishing or releasing along with many others..’, and that ‘She has NO ill will towards gaga. It’s nonsense She was listening to the Tony Bennett duet album last week and appreciating it’. Well, I don’t believe it. Why isn’t Madonna saying all this herself? Plus if she was not supposed to release this track, how the hell did it end up in the leak, unless she is surrounded by people who want to make her look really bad? I don’t understand how demos leak, a finished album, yes, but demos? Of a super famous pop star who has always controlled every second of her life?
I have two things to say about this:
– Madonna is a real businesswoman and a control freak, I can’t prove it but I bet these leaks were calculated leaks and her reaction saying it was terrorism, total BS. She just needs attention and publicity, and this is a smart marketing strategy.
– Then releasing a demo of a song dissing Lady Gaga, which may appear or not on her upcoming album, is the second part of the stunt. It brings controversy and even though she appears like the old witch with this one, it’s still publicity.
