1. America – Modern Hut – Joe Steinhardt’s best song is a strange, very melodic song, sung spoke with a loner, alienated, white blues feel to it, and lyrics that seem to be in the process of discovering themselves, though the truth is they are well studied articulation of emotional inertia – A+
2. I Want Your Love – Chic – After brown and Clinton, the most sampled band all of all time and you can hear why , this has three pauses and then another and then a break and then it repeats and that’s before you’ve reached the first verse… more than enough room to place your raps – A
3. Vengeance – Christophe Walken – this is the weirdest thing I’ve heard, the “don’t I want to…” litany is almost completely bereft of passion – B
4. Have A Cigar – Gov’t Mule – Unlike their “Shine On Your Crazy Diamond”, this sounds like a straight up re-arrangement for electric guitars – B+
5. Do They Know It’s Christmas Time 30 – Band Aid 2010 – Hey, it’s much better than 2014 – B-
6. Third day Of A Seven day Binge – Marilyn Manson – There are two great moments in the binge a) the second morning when you don’t feel as ill as you thought you would, and b) the third day when the world goes egg shape – B+
7. I Been to Georgia On A Fast Train – Billy Joe Shaver – The examined life leaves a cowboy baffled – A
8. Another Life – D’Angelo, Vanguard – Is it over already? – B+
9. Two Weeks – FKA twigs – Her first undeniable masterpiece is thieving in sexiness – A+
10. Summer of ’79 – Spider bags – A great rocker, but that goes without saying, right? – A
