Not With The Band: Why Are These Artists Defending Bill Cosby?

Cosby’s defaced Hollywood star

What’s surprising in this story? Nothing and everything! A rapist defending another rapist, really, it’s just the most natural thing in the world… While being interviewed in his car by a TMZ journalist, CeeLo Green was asking to give his opinion on the Bill Cosby rape allegations and he said he definitely couldn’t ‘judge’ the comedian:

‘He [Cosby] hasn’t said anything. Which is also to some an admission of guilt, as well. It just doesn’t seem fair any way you slice it.’

‘You can’t defend yourself in that capacity’

‘You just have to let facts be facts and so on and so forth. The facts have to speak the loudest. With that being said, none of this seems fair. But of course, for any victim in the situation it’s highly unfair. It’s not for me to judge him. I definitely can’t judge him. It’s just unfortunate because he’s so beloved to so many.’

What is this mumbo jumbo about? It’s unfair for Cosby, he can’t judge him, and after all these ‘unfair’, at the end, what does CeeLo think exactly? How many women have to come forward, how many awkward interviews have to be aired to convince CeeLo that there is a huge problem there? So far about 20 women have publicly accused Cosby of assaulting them and it seems there are new allegations popping up almost every day. Plus I don’t buy the argument that these women didn’t go to the police at the time so they must be lying… first of all some of them were 15 and 17, then the new allegations are actually part of an old story, Vulture has the timeline of all the accusations and they started in 2004! With the same scenario of pills, drugs and sexual assaults.

CeeLo Green pleaded no contest to drugs charges earlier this year, after been accused of secretly slipping ecstasy into the drink of his date in July 2012, then he tweeted very controversial remarks about rape victims (‘If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent’) so we can understand why he would side up with his peers, but he is not the only one to defend Cosby — and this one is more surprising — as R&B-soul singer Jill Scott, twitted the following a few days ago when asked to take a side:

‘oh ok. So they’ve proven the alleged allegations? I didn’t know. Will they also be giving him back the millions he’s donated?’

‘I side with substantiated proof when media/society is attempting to destroy a magnificent legacy… I’m respecting a man who has done more for the image of Brown people that (sp) almost anyone ever. From Fat Albert to the Huxtables.’

I despise people who want to stay on the politically correct side, and are afraid to judge, it’s insane,… I, you and everybody judge other people every day, so stop it! This ‘innocent until proven guilty’ tirade is so stupid, we have the right to express our own opinions outside of a court of law, everyone is able to make his or her own opinion based on the facts. And if 20 women (plus all the other ones who want to stay anonymous) tell the same story of rape, allow me to have an opinion! Fuck this ‘I don’t judge’ business, the justice system is so unfair anyway as it largely depends on how much money you can invest in your defense (O.J. Simpson anyone?) and so many people are never recognized guilty and get away with murder.

The Cosby case is a good example of what fame can do to people, very similar to the Michael Jackson case, people don’t want to believe it because the guy was so famous, and so beloved as Green said. Could you imagine the same accusations against, let’s say Marilyn Manson  … everyone would believe it! Cosby is using this father image he has always projected, the strong-moral character he has always played – and let me tell you how much I have always despised the Cosby show for this same reason! So because the guy gave money to charities, he gets a pass on rape?

Cosby has even more supporters among artists, actress Whoopi Goldberg said she had ‘a lot of questions for the lady’ and actress-choreographer Debbie Allen admitted that the accusations were ‘hard to believe’… And this is even worst when this kind of affirmation comes from women. Meanwhile, people keep writing ‘rapist’ on Cosby’s Hollywood walk of fame star…
