That Was The Week That Was: December 1st, 2014

"I can't breath"
“I can’t breath”

Politics: It seems to me that is an unarmed person is shot by a cop there should be no question whether to indict or not, the law should send it directly to trial by Jury. Eric Garner was selling loosies for God’s sake: there is overreacting by the police and then there are acts of baffling and repulsive fear and loathing. If you can’t handle the strain don’t become a cop, if you can play by the rules, and if you kill and unarmed man who is shouting “I can’t breath” let 12 of your peers decide your fate in open court. An ability to do your job professionally is not an excuse for killing somebody and a minor infracture of the law didn’t need this at all. Another day, another outrage

Death: Yuck, two big deaths. The Rolling Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys and the Faces keyboard player Ian McLagan. Both as important to 70s rock as people just a little on the side can possibly be. Two great, gifted , affable rock susuperheroes what a shame.

Live: Yeah, folks it was all about Cat Stevens and I travelled to Philadelphia just to see him and while the concert had its limitations built in, still I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. A revelation “Heaven/Where True Love Goes” and a version for the ages “Moonshadow”.

Recorded: Things are winding down for the year, though the Mary J. Blige The London Sessions serves as a reminder of how great she can be when she stops Oprahing us and lets the music speak for itself.

Sports: The Good News? The Nets finally won a game The bad news? It was against the Knicks. Nice long relief pick up for the Yanks in Andrew Miller -a very sharp lefty,
