Let's Active: rock nyc's concert picks for week of December 8th, 2014

The second best ever
The second best ever

Of course, this is the biggest concert of the season, maybe the second biggest Jingle Ball ever. 2012 clips it because Taylor Swift and One Direction clip Taylor Swift and 5 Seconds Of Summer even if Tay is a bigger star than ever right now. Even so, Meghan Trainor, Calvin Harris, Iggy Azalea… geez a who’s who for pop 2014 that’s for sure. This Friday AT MSG, it is Jingle Ball time.

Monday – Manu Koch – Iridium – New jazz for now people

Monday – WFUV Holiday Concert – Beacon Theatre – Featuring Conor Oberst and Laura Marling: do you need to know any more?

Monday – Jamie T – T5 – Back from the wilderness, one of the UK’s best singer wongwriters has a killer album in pocket

Monday – Smashing Pumpkins – Billy’s best album maybe since Mellon Chollie, and a tiny venue

Thursday –  Parquet Courts – Webster Hall – I’m not the fan of these indie rockers everybody else, but I bet a live showing could change my mind

Thursday – Smokey Robinson – Barclay Center – But daddy it’s Smokey

Thursday – Cheri Dahl – Fat Baby – Plus Susan Said, Susan has a terrific new album just releases and Cheri will be Cheri

Friday – Modern Baseball – Gramercy Theatre – They were pretty great when they opened for The wonder Years this summer, plus Kuckle Pucks are well worth catching.

Sunday – Nick Lowe – Bowery Ballroom – A holiday revue with a great Christmas album from last year in his pocket so should be awesome
