1. Nothing Left To Do (Let’s Make This Christmas Blue) – The Both – Aimee Mann takes the lead, ted Leo adds hushed background vocals, the organ owns the track, the melody is lovely and the song is almost perfect Mann 101 – A-

2. Hold Me Close – David Essex – A UK teen idol spectacular from the mid-1970s, I went to see him at the Manchester Apollo with my step-brother and we failed to pick up any girls – A+

3. Love Me Harder – Ariana Grande, The Weeknd – Ariana has a great voice and the Weeknd is a real talent, this is louder than new r&b as well – B

4. As She Is Walking Away (feat Alan Jackson) – Zac Brown – I know I’ve said a lot of mean things about this guy, indeed I just compared him to the snotfaced traitor who got killed in the beginning of the Godfather. But this is pretty good – B

5. Get “em Up – Nickelback- Hell, this is a pretty great rocker. I am amazed, if not completely bemused. This is terrific little thing – B+

6. The Heart Wants what It Wants – Selena Gomez – Being in love with Justin Bieber is the moral equivalent of getting into bed with Ebola – B-

7. 900 Miles Away From Home – Bob Dylan – Superb version – A

8. Men Of Good Fortune – Lou Reed – For all you fortunate sons, but Lou doesn’t care at all – A

9. Over There – Frances Langford, James Cagney – Great take from a terrific movie – A

10, People Are Crazy – Billy Carrington – God is great, beer is good… and the best rhyme for watcha doing in Ohio (damned if I know) – B+
