As long as one man can impregnate 100 women, there will be too many men in the world. They are not needed. and war is God’s way of trashing them. It is a pity and during times of conscription, the draft, there is nothing men can do about it (don’t talk to me about women… get real).
But if there is no draft, there are other reasons to join the armed forces, poverty being an obvious one, but also other stuff, real valour, real caring… and I don’t care. I once had a friend I worked with and I begged him not to join the armed forces, there are things worth dying for but I can’t see any right this minute that are not entirely subjective.
None of that excuses the brutal stupidity of Bruce springsteen, Dave Grohl (who doesn’t have a brain, Bruce lends him one) and Zac Brown covering “Fortunate Son”. The more I think about fortunate son, the more crappy it hits me as… it seems to me bruce went on stage, honored veterans, then called em brokeass trash for doing what he is honoring them for doing. It still sounds like a dis of veterans…, it says, “you are broke, you need a job and you are forced to serve your country not for patriotism, or pride, or because you’ve made a decision to serve the way politicians never do, but because you’ve got no other choice…”. At least if it was about the draft, there is a reason behind the force.They’re like the best man at a wedding who spends the toast insulting the happy couple.
