Let's Active: rock nyc Concert Picks Week of November 3rd, 2014

FKA Hottie
FKA Hottie

FKA Twigs is a great dancer so I think it is a fair bet that she will kill it on stage but even if she stands around like the Dum Dum girl, she still has the best (second best? definitely third) album of the year under her belt and the chance to see her perform em live, even at T5, Saturday night is not to be missed

Monday – Jimmy Page 92Y – In conversation but I’ll take it

Monday – Todd Rundgren – BB Kings – Ah yes, the Nazz is back! The last time I saw him, Todd was the only other musician worth listening to at The All Starr gig during the summer. I expect no less.

Monday – Lucero – Bowery Ballroom – In a different world I’d be a huge fan, but I cottoned on to this rock band too late and don’t have the time to play catch up. Yet every time I listen to them I am better for the experience.

Tuesday – Mac Demarco – T5 – Pretty weird for a singer songwriter but in a good way. Sold out a 2,000 SRO so figure he will be around for awhile.

Tuesday – Pep – Mercury Lounge – I’ve wanted to check out this superb girl group sounding band for over a year now, a must see I’ll miss but you shouldn’t.

Wednesday – Hozier – Irving Plaza – Beacon theatre before 2015 is over

Wednesday – Jenny Lewis – T5 – I am no fan but she was pretty terrific at Governors Ball earlier this year

Wednesday – Chrissie Hynde – Beacon Theatre – Helen Bach went yesterday in Boston… the setlist is pretty awesome

Wednesday – Nude Beach – with a terrific double album just released, they’ve got the maetrial to kill it here.

Wednesday – Bruce Springsteen – Theatre At Madison Square Garden – The 2010s may well be the decade in which Bruce fails to signify as his head keeps getting bigger. For sure, the E Street Band at Barclays earlier this year was the very worst I’ve ever seen em. BUT, this “Stand Up For Heroes” benefit solo gig should be very good.

Thursday – Stevie Wonder – MSG – Performing the classic Songs In The Key Of Life, which means “Sir Duke”, “Love’s In Love With Love Today”, “Isn’t She Lovely” , it also means you’re missing the greatest hits I saw in 2008 and in 2013, not to mention the Natural wonder tour back in 1994. Suck it up sunshine, this is Stevie.

Friday – Usher – MSG – The man can pt on a show and the last coupla singles were way up to standard.
