I know there are still some racist people out there, but I am always hopeful when I think about the young generation, racism will disappear one day,… right? Thus every time something like this happens, this is very disheartening, human nature can be ugly and this new generation has to deal with its own racist trash too.
English artist FKA Twigs released ‘LP1’ last August, rock nyc has it at the # 3 spot for album of the year and it was even nominated for best British album of the year on the Mercury Prize list, however Tahliah Debrett Barnett (her real name) tweeted about a totally different topic very recently:
‘I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week’
‘Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it’s unacceptable online.’
The singer has been the target of very racist comments on Twitter since she has been dating Robert Pattinson of the Twilight film series… Obviously, all this was coming from a herd of young girls still in love with her movie vampire hero, but this turned really ugly:
‘A monkey is prettier than you’
‘your monkey face and lack of talent will never be able to change, I hope the day you can see the face of truth and thus end up’
‘Shut up bitch black niggaaaa xdd’
No need to go on, but this blog has a whole series of it if you want to read more… and the monkey word comes back a LOT. In what era are these people living? Is this supposed to represent the new generation, using a racist insult of the last century? Really pathetic, plus there’s no doubt about their intentions: they are insanely obsessed by a teen movie and want to hurt someone who dares to date the pale object of their obsession and dares to be non white? Come on, look at her, she is gorgeous.
But there is a very good thing at the end of the story, I have checked many of the accounts which launched the racist harassment on twitter, and most of them have been suspended… excellent Twitter police! Now a lot of people are expecting Pattinson to make a move to defend her woman, but FKA Twigs seems to be doing just all right by herself.
