Week 40:

Sports: Derek Jeter’s last at bat ever at Yankee Stadium was a game winning single, his last at bat ever was at Fenway and he got another single. It’s a shame he couldn’t perform at that level all year but there you: Captain Clutch got old (er, cmon he’s 40 not 90) and hung it up and the great team I love from 1996 to 2000, the team I watched endlessly: Bernie Williams, Scott Brosius, Tino, Luis, Paul, Posada have all retired. They were the Beatles of sports. And now the last one has gone. Thanks, Cap’n.

Live: The Global Citizen Festival got its one unforgettable set, No Doubt’s superb greatest hits  performance was the one to see. Hella good and then some. Iggy Azealia was a fine introduction for me to Pier 97 and not musical, but the nightmare of trying to cat Stevens tickets ended with me having to go to Philadelphia for the night in December.

Recorded: The new John Mellencamp is surprisingly good and Kate Tempest is an english spoken word rapper and really really good, alt j surprised me I swear it. but the week belongs to Leonard Cohen, who took over from Old 97’s as my album of the year.

War: Barack Obama reminds me of Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part III “Just when I thought I was out they pull me back in”, the President seems to be saying as the bombing of Syria begins.
