All About The Bassnectar
All About The Bassnectar

If there is a better purveyor of house music than Bassnectar in 2014, I don’t know who it is. Noise Vs beauty is simply the best EDM album of the year bar none. Now, lets be clear, it is electronica, it is Aphex Twin. This is real deal 2014 House, it is incredible, unique, freshly manufactured beats and they sound terrific in a world where I am getting pretty damn sick of beats all sounding themselves. Santa Crus’s Lorin Ahston is the DJ to beat and Saturday MSG is undoubtedly the place to be. I expect the rave of the year and I have tix to Skrillex NYE.

Monday – Imelda May – Irving Plaza – With the excellent Tribal just released on Tuesday, she has another killer rockabilly album to share. Gives retro a very good name.

Monday – The Raveonettes – MHOW – Excellent retro rock indie pop conglom who may never have another “Love In A Trashcan” in em but Pe’ahi is so good, who cares?

Tuesday – Ethan Johns – Rockwood – The scion of Glynnis John nd producer in his own right, is worth a viewing as a folkie singer songwriter.

Tuesday – Banks – T5 – The new album Goddess, is a triumph of pop soil with one of the big songs of the year “Fuck Em Only We Know” in waiting.

Tuesday – Lady Antebellum – Gramercy Theater – Six years after I saw em at Joe’s Pub, another chance to see the country trio in an intimate setting.

Tuesday – Aloe Blacc – Santos Party House – One hit wonder, and that a hard sample via Elton John, but still, at Santos? Should be worth a look.

Wednesday – Bryan Ferry – Beacon Theatre – Time for some Pyjamarama

Wednesday – Tove Lo – Webster Hall – second killer track is “Timebomb” so maybe time to check her out.

Thursday – Rakim – Stage 48 – The most purely poetic rapper of all time.

Thursday – Billy Joel – MSG – Yeah, I’m going and he better provide some fun this time.

Saturday – La Roux – T5 – Trouble In Paradise is an excellent dance album that should have been another smash for her.
