“Important Announcement from Diana Krall
“I’m deeply saddened that I will have to postpone the release of my new album Wallflower and the Wallflower U.S Fall Tour until next year. I’ve been battling a severe case of pneumonia and am under doctor’s orders to rest for the next few months in order to regain my strength and good health.”

I wonder why she has to delay the album? Sure, Diana won’t be able to tour behind it but so what? We all know it will be a miracle if it sells 100K copies and a break between the release and touring might work to the albums advantage.
Figure everybody who wants Wallflower will buy or stream it in week one, by the third week it will be dead even if she is touring in the immediate aftermath. BUT if she gives it a nice long break, maybe three months, maybe releases it in October and tours behind it in April 2015, the album gets a second lease of life. At this point in her career, Diana is preaching to the converted and those who will see her won’t nececcasrily buy the album unless they are reminded to. A long break will work as a reminder.
As for the album, I’ve heard a couple of tracks and maybe I’m jaded or maybe I am still hungover from the 2012 Beacon gig, which was simultaneously the sweetest and the blandest I’ve ever seen her. Both of the songs “Desperado” and “California Dreaming” are useless. “California Dreaming”? it isn’t deep harmony why bother and Krall has zero, nothing, nada to add to “Desperado” if you’ve heard Linda Ronstadt’s version. Why is Gaga and Bennett singing “Cheek to Cheek”, by the way.
The truth is, I am not a big Krall fan any more; she hit a height with When I Look In Your Eyes and that Carnegie Hall gig and has been coming down ever since, plus is it worth mentioning how great a song to cover? Off the 1967 “Dr. Doolittle” (sung to a seal by RexHarrisson), what a terrific idea to cover it?
Let’s hope she is better soon any way.
