I will never pass an occasion to remind you, meat eaters, that you should think twice before putting this piece of beef or bacon in your mouth. But the problem is the lack of education and information regarding all the consequences about eating meat. I know what you’re gonna say, not again, enough of this vegetarian propaganda, meat is tasty and I need by burger. But shut up because Paul is speaking… I am talking about Paul McCartney of course! I have a PETA card showing Macca wearing a ‘Eat no….’ shirt on my desk since his meat-free concert at the Dodger stadium…. and you know what, he is doing more today by supporting Pledge Meat Free Mondays:
‘Hi there, Paul speaking’ he says in the video below. ‘Listen, I need your help. All I want you to do is just log in on pledge.meatfreemondays.com and pledge your support to the idea of Meat Free Mondays,” McCartney says in a video message to fans. “That’s all you need to do, I need your help. Please do it. We’ll send all these pledges to the politicians and then they’ll do something about it.’
Then, is that a new song? I don’t know but Paul wants you to skip meat only once a week, on Mondays and you should all do it. The problem is that people often don’t see the connection between eating meat and climate change but it is real…I have given up meat for ethical reasons as I refuse to participate in the horror show that the meat industry has become, but there are other excellent reasons to not eat meat. First, the amount of energy (and so carbon dioxide emissions) dedicated to livestock is considerable. Secondly, methane released by animal farming is agriculture’s second largest greenhouse gas, and methane is even worst than carbon dioxide at trapping heat. If you want something concrete, Gidon Eshel and Pamela Martin from the University of Chicago found that shifting from eating meat to veganism saved about 2 tons of CO2 equivalent per person per year!
On Tuesday September 23rd, global leaders will meet at the UN headquarters in NYC to discuss climate change, the first time since their 2009 meeting in Copenhagen. So Pledge Meat Free Mondays wants to encourage each of us to make a small diet change as a way to show commitment to reducing global emissions. Because climate change is real, it’s coming, and if we don’t do something, we may be all doomed! Well, we are doomed anyway but this is another subject.
Just listen to Paul because he is right!
