Food is the new indie star, food is in and I see more and more restaurants flourishing everywhere. Especially in the Arts District, a definitively cool and gentrified place in Los Angeles, and apparently one of the most filmed locations in the world: Ed Wood, Terminator 2, Monster in Law, NCIS LA, Numbers, The Office, House have scene which have been filmed there, as the promo for Justin Timberlake’s ‘Take Back the Night’ single. There is a new cool eatery in the Arts District, called Fifty Seven (which got its name after the old loading dock of Heinz ’57) it has a yummy menu and it is even hosting some musical events.
And surprise, Best Coast is having a dinner party at Fifty Seven, on Monday September 15th. The evening will start at 7 pm with cocktails (cucumber-infused vodka to spicy mescal) in a private alley patio, then a dinner prepared by various chef stations scattered around the space. Best Coast (meaning Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno) have worked with the restaurant chef to create a menu inspired by foods the band loves in LA or in the road. LAist got a sample of the menu, which will include: rice fritters with pear, paste and honey; pork spare ribs with crispy sweet potato; ginger panna cotta with jasmine granita and frozen grapes; and maple flatbreads done three delicious ways… After dinner, Best Coast will do a DJ set… and this is a bit disappointing if you want my opinion, why aren’t they playing their songs? After all, it’s $75 and for this price I would expect live music…but what do I say, you will be able to hang out with Bethany and Bobb. Bethany talked about the night to LAist:
‘It was like being in the studio also meant we got to eat some of our favorite foods located around where we were working’‘she said to LAist, ‘[L.A.] is our home. It’s where we are from; it has so much meaning to us and it fuels the creativity that allows us to keep Best Coast going. This city plays a huge role in everything we do.’
Get tickets for Sept. 15 via Fifty Seven LA, but be prepare, One Night Only, is the new trend and the intention is to create a monthly series with different artists.
