EDM can be hit or miss live but with New Orleans Big Freedia opening my guess is the Canadian duo is gonna be way on their game at Rumsey Playfield’s sold out gig with one final no nonsense push on their excellent current album White Women. So, yeah this is the gig Chromeo fans on a Friday evening during the last days of summer 2014.
Monday – Die Antwoood – Irving Plaza – South African duo get fucky sucky with a great live show.
Monday – Gary Clark Jr – Rumsey Playfield – His last release was yet another live version of a song from his 2012 album, but so what? On stage he is a superb performer and always a great guitarist.
Tuesday – Justin Townes Earle – Stage 48 – On one hand, he releases the potential album of the year on Tuesday, on the other hand, in 2012 he released the album of the year and still sucked on stage…
Wednesday – Spoon – Rumsey Playfield – As a non fan I have to admit the new album delivers the goods, and I also have to admit they were pretty good at Governors ball
Wednesday – Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers – Madison Square Garden – The newbie is a corker.
Wednesday – Bob Mould – Bowery Ballroom – He plays quite a lot around town so that is probably why this isn’t sold out. “I Don’t Know you Anymore” is a terrific song.
Wednesday – The Eagles – Prudential Center – The History of and when I saw it at MSG last year about as exciting as the title suggests.
Thursday – True Groove Allstars – Milk River – Continue their Thursday night residency with The True Groove All-Stars Global Soul Celebration of the release of “Funky World” a Club/Dub/Dance Compilation
Friday – John Cooper Clarke – Bowery Electric – The bloody train is bloody late, you bloody wait, you bloody wait
Friday – Luke Bryant – Madison Square garden – Sure, I think he sucks as well, but the thing about guys like Luke is they have a lot of fun on stage…
Friday – Midge Ure – Iridium – A New Romantic returns
Sunday – Lorde – JBL At Pier 97 – I know she doesn’t care what i think but I think she was pretty damn good at Roseland
