What is the difference between a Kinks concert without Dave Davies and a ray davies solo concert? The setlist.
I mean Mick Avory is all very well (at 70!!) but really, the brothers Davies are the heart of the band, they are the band really and really it would be like Noel touring without Liam… why bother go solo.
But that is what we may be getting. Ray Davies told Mojo: “Dave’s invited to the party, but if he doesn’t want to do it, the reunion will happen anyway. “He’s very welcome to turn up if he wants. I’d much rather work with him than without him.”
So I don’t believe the Kinks without Dave is the Kinks, it is something else. Ray might as well get an orchestra again: “Yes, it would. I think it’s all down to the music. If somebody can’t or won’t play, there are other players out there. Mick and I want to do it.”
That’s what Ray said. Not to me , to Mojo. The Kinks haven’t performed together since 1996 and it would be such a shame if Dave can’t find his way round to just sucking it up for a year and having enough money to retire on.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be there either way, but I wouldn’t feel like I was seeing the Kinks.
