Watch Haim Reveal Secrets In A New Video For 'My Song 5’

Haim’s secret

I still can’t make sense of the Haim sisters’ enormous success, I saw them a few years ago at a tiny street festival in LA and there were like 10 people, then saw them at the Santa Monica pier a year later and they had attracted a rather large crowd, but now they are literally headlining the FYF fest? They have a 9 pm spot just before the Strokes, which is big deal.

I haven’t followed their career lately and this new video tells me that their music has largely evolved from its initial direction of vague Fleetwood Mac sound going R&B. The remix version of ‘My song 5’ even features some rap by A$AP Ferg, a sure way to alienate some fans (the ones who were in love with the initial sound) and to gain many more others (the huge crowd of hip hop lovers).

But it is the video that has attracted everyone’s attention, first of all, it’s kind of an insane mess, secondly, it has more cameo appearances than all the Muppets movies reunited. Set up as a fake ‘Dallas Murphy Show’, your typical day time talk show with its share of colorful characters, you may recognize Big Sean and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend in the audience, Grimes wearing a hooded poncho in the waiting room, Ke$ha as the Cat Lady and SNL’s Vanessa Bayer as the host… and there are probably others.

I couldn’t make any sense of this crazy clip so I have to watch it several times, but according to some fans it could have some secret message and it could be a way for Danielle Haim to come out? Just follow this comment:

‘I Kinda believe this is a subtle way of Danielle coming out. I mean the guests have a) a phobia of BALLS b) In love with her cat (or pussy lol) c) Este says she’s sexually attracted to mimes (which is odd) d) girlfriend has a girlfriend. Also Grimes and Danielle were getting really friendly.’

Unbelievable how people can put so much thought into a quite ridiculous music video. The rap part is a bit cheap and opportunistic (who doesn’t do it?) and purists will say that the video ruins the songs as the singing is constantly interrupted by talk show dialogues… I just wonder why artists spend so much energy into this sort of more-than-distracting scenarios when they are originally promoting their music.
