You know my feelings about Tomas Doncker, right? Not just a great musician but a terrific guy and a good friend and news that as the head of True Groove Records he will be heading a Thursday night residency at Milk River in Brooklyn:
“Starting this Thursday, August 21, Milk River in association with True Groove Global SOUL presents a weekly Global Soul Celebration. Kicking off this collaboration will be the Tomas Doncker BAND in an evening of blues, funk, afro-beat featuring special guests. NO COVER NO MINIMUM (but please support Milk River as you can)”
This should be a blast and more importantly a place for Doncker and the many groups and singers of all types and styles his label presents, to test drive material off their upcoming releases. Including September 9ths eagerly anticipated “FUNKY WORLD,” True Groove’s Club/Dub/Dance compilation, which you can stream here.
And which I have had in heavy rotation for a week now and which all I can tell you is just wait till you hear Bill Laswell get to work on Marla Mase -what on the feasts for the music fan of the year.
And speaking of feast, nice quotes on the True Groove poster but does rock nyc get a look in? No… So hear this Tomas: “Doncker is as handsome as he is smart…” Do with it what you will.
By the way Milk River is on Atlantic Avenue and the C Train stops right there so no excuses…
