I wonder how it feels to be at the top of Forbes Magazine’s celebrity power list. Fortunately, I will certainly never know (and I honestly mean it) but Beyonce knows how it feels. She is number 1 on the Forbes Celebrity 100, she beat Oprah or whoever other man and woman who has ever been there in the past, and she has earned $115 million between June1 2013 and June 1 2014, that is $2.4 m per stop on the massive On the Run tour… wow that’s about $315,000 a day, $13,000 an hour, $218 a minute,…. In one day, Beyonce makes more money than me working for 6 years, this is pretty incredible, but also pretty outrageous,… no matter how much you admire and love the queen B, nobody is worth that much money.
This list is not exclusively based on money (otherwise Dr Dre is way richer than Beyonce) but on plain power, like the number of mentions in print, TV and radio, and the impact on social medias such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Anyway, Beyonce is rich because sex sells and she has certainly put her booty before whatever talent she has, but she is also rich because she has endorsed Pepsi and other commercial products. There’s no mystery.
And since her husband Jay Z arrives in sixth place with an estimated $60 million in earnings on this same list, the power couple has really nothing to worry about,…or have they? I don’t want to amplify a rumor but Beyonce herself did it! According to the Mirror and the NY Daily News (and there are videos to prove it) during her concert in Ohio, Beyonce appeared on stage wearing a bride veil during the ‘Resentment’, which is about a woman whose partner cheats on her. And she changed the lyrics of her song, instead of saying ‘Been riding with you for six years’, she sang ‘Been riding with you for 12 years’, which is exactly the amount of years she has been with Jay Z. I know they are doing this monster tour together, but this kick in the stomach by sister Solange in the elevator had to be about something. Beyonce wants to fuel the rumor, so I have absolutely no problem to speculate! But let’s think about it for a minute, this was not done in the spur of the moment, this has to be really calculated as everything she does, may be more publicity for the tour…. Still, it doesn’t look good for their couple. She may be the most powerful woman in the world, but you know what they say, money can’t buy…
