What do the Buzzcocks and Titus Andronicus have in common? Well, personally, I’ve seen both many many times but not in years. I haven’t seen Titus since December 2012 and Buzzcocks since the 1980s. And I am not sold on the double header, I love both bands, I mean worship em, but it is a little cheese and chalk though. The Buzzcocks invented pop-punk, in retrospect Titus Andronicus invented boss-punk. However, when I interviewed Patrick here back in 2010 he name checked Television Personalities, “I credit them with bringing vulnerability to punk. Punk from the beginning was about giving the kids stuff to shout about but TVP applied that to the emotional spectrum and that was important to me,” He may be right, but couldn’t you say the same thing about Pete Shelley.
One thing I promise: Patrick won’t have to give the Buzzcocks the dressing down he gave the Pogues at the infamous St, Patrick’s day gig. I interviewed Pete around the time of Homosapien and he was a great guy and Steve Diggle has a great reputation.
Plus, the Buzzcocks can really bring it, they aren’t Titus, but they have a real power, I saw em blow the roof off the late great Palladium on the A Different Kind Of Tension in 1979, the Fall opened and failed to blow the Buzzcocks off stage (which reminds me, where the hell is the Falls, they haven’t played here in years and years). Also, didn’t Titus cover “Boredom” once or did I make that up? Well, they sure should.
So, yeah, doors at 7pm at Webster Hall on September 6th, a Saturday which means you’re done by 10pm so I am so there for this one and so should you guys …
