I never cared whatsoever for Toni Braxton’s music, but her recent published memoirs ‘Unbreak my Heart’ and the ‘revelation’ that came with it made me cringe and scream once again against stupid believes and superstitions… because there is no other words for this.
I explain myself: in her memoir, Toni reveals she had an abortion in 2001. She had been taking acne medication and said she feared the drug may have caused serious damage to the fetus, a very reasonable thought actually, so she decided to abort. Later she had two sons with musician Keri Lewis, and her youngest was diagnosed with autism, and this is where everything turns foolish as she writes: ‘Is God punishing me for that abortion?’… ‘(I) believed that God’s payback was to give my son autism.’
And this is where 2,000 years of Christianity lead us, the awful punishing God of the old testament is back with a vengeance, the indestructible crazy idea of Karma is resurfacing and showing its ugly head. Haven’t we progressed a bit since the time these retarded ideas were controlling our ancestors? Apparently, many people still think this way and this drives me insane.
This persistent belief that we must pay for the sins of our father, or mother in the case of Braxton, is well alive, God is punishing a child because of something his mother did!! This train of thought is unfortunately well spread in the world in general, how many times have you heard from people ‘everything happens for a reason’? I bet a lot of time, and this is exactly the same old bad shit! It is also well spread among rock-pop stars, you have heard it a million times, all these people thanking God for their Awards and Grammys,… it was all part of God’s plan, what a joke! Didn’t Beyoncé say something similar in that stupid documentary about herself when she declared her life was so blessed because her grandmother was in the church lighting candles for her pregnant mother? ‘I am a result of my grandmother’s prayers and my mother prays for me all the time and I pray for my mother all the time.’…. bla bla bla, and Braxton didn’t pray enough to compensate her abortion I guess?
I am sorry (not really), but there’s no other way to put it, if these people really believe that shit, they are dumb and extremely self-centered, and they are the reason why I have become more and more anti-theist, those are very dangerous thoughts,… what are you gonna say to these thousands of Haitian children who lost their families in the 2010 earthquake or these millions of Syrian kids whose homes just got bombed? That they deserve it because their grandmothers did not pray enough? This is beyond ridiculous and this makes me mad.
