Week 20
Theater: Can one star make that much difference in a musical theater production? It can when that one person is the sheer brilliance that is Jessie Mueller as Carole King, she sure can. A bravado vocal and acting tour de force that changed a mediocre jukebox musical story into what they were aiming for: the story of “Tapestry”. A great, star making performance
Live: Always a pleasure to watch our sexiest sexagenarian Cher being, amazingly enough, still a titanic force at the age of 68. She can’t dance and her wardrobe changes are longer than you might expect. BUT, man is she fit, Grannies rule, OK?
Recorded: The Naughty Boy album Hotel Cabana is a masterpiece of sorts, the culmination of four years of hard work and the continuation if not the improvement on Emile Sande’s recent work. Better than Discourse, better than Rudimental, it is a stand alone masterwork with guest stars aplenty. Lily Allen comes in second and Nikki Lane brings up the rear.
Sports: The Nets on the way to getting swept away by the Heat and the Yanks are bobbing between 2nd and first place but if they don’t get Sabathia sorted it isn’t going to help much.
World: Kidnapping 200 young girls and selling them into marriage, sex, or slavery, will get the worlds attention. For a week or so.
