The King of the six string guitar Bucky Pizzarelli is bringing two of the top swing guitarists Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo along for a full on jazz party at the Cutting Room this Friday. Expect American Standards aplenty as well as deeper stuff like Gypsy swing and three guitar finger picking battles.
Tuesday – Johnny Winter – Albino blues great, actually produced THREE ALBUMS for Muddy Waters and still plays a deadly guitar.
Tuesday – Nickel Creek – Beacon Theater Popular bluegrass modern country band, a little rockier than you might expect on occasion
Tuesday – The Both – Bowery Ballroom – Pretty good when I saw em at the Town Hall last year, they might be much better in search a small club even if the debut album wasn’t up to much.
Wednesday – Future Islands – Webster Hall – Good pop band whose new single (if not entire album) “Seasons (Waiting On You)” lead by Samuel T’s lovely voice, is a real winner.
Wednesday – The Knife – Webster Hall – Electronic pop duo from Sweden, need I say more?
Wednesday – The Standells – BB Kings – Old time garage rock band whose one hit, “Dirty Waer” is a killer.
Thursday – Outernational – Mercury Lounge – Maybe the best rock band in the world today, these agit proppers play it as they play and are a must see.
Friday – CHVRCES – T5 – Now the hype has calmed down, this is a pretty good electro pop band with a cute chick lead singer pissed at the sexism of her boy fans.
Saturday – Against Me! – Webster Hall – The new one is really good
Saturday – Margot And The Nuclear So And Sos – Bowery Ballroom – After asking us to interview em and offering us press passes they ignored out reply in the affirmative. Yet another on the long ritual humiliation of being alive.
