louder today

1. Quieter Today – Cloud Nothings – The first track on the newbie is a return to the obstreperous roar electric of the Albini moment but with an extra dollop of melody – A

2. Fake Your Death – My Chemical Romance – Sure, you think you’ve heard it before, that piano lick is classic and the tune is a variant on a Cat Stevens oldie. But is a good song despite itself, very good, and if this is MCR last hurrah they got it back again one last time… much the way REM did – A

3. We All Go Back To Where We Belong – REM – I’m referring to this finishing end masterpiece – A

4. Hundreds Of Ways – Conor Oberst – This isn’t his worst song, it isn’t good enough to illicit that strong an emotion. It is a mediocre piece of Conor by the numbers – B-

5. You Are – Erica Campbell – Best song on the album sounds like classic Motown before it roars off into the chorus – B

6. Weightless – Jon Langford And Skull Orchard – This album is a bit of a turkey and this song snaps like a toothless alligator  – C+

7. Pussywhipped – Steel Panther – Tasteful flute and flamenco before the usual thrash and whatever – C

8. Ramblin’ Man – Hank Williams III, Melvis – PS, the Williams to skip ain’t this one, it is the middle one – B+

9. Autobahn – Kraftwerk – Some writer in the Guardian compered it to “Fun Fun Fun” and “Beat On Da Brat” – A

10. Trouble’s Lament – Tori Amos – Cmon Tori, time for a change up – C+
