I would have bought a ticket on presale Tuesday morning if I could’ve but it was sold out and now I’ve seen the line up I am far from thrilled I must say. The three headliners are Outkasts, Vampire weekend and Jack white. The last thing I wanna do in this world or the next is to see Vampire Weekend again, especially after that private gig. Jack white I saw twice in two days in 2012 and liked him fine though not enough to wait around Randall’s Island till midnight. And Outkasts???? What the hell… I can see Andre 3000 at Webster Hall.
None of those headliners can compare with Guns N Roses and Kanye West (though they can compare with Kings Of Leon).
So why go? Because missing the lead act is a blessing. I will probably wait for Outkasts and will definitely pass on Vampire weekend and possibly stay for Jack white.
So why go at all, you ask?
Here are some of the other acts: Phoenix, Foster the People, Skrillex, Spoon, Blur’s Damon Albarn, Neko Case, Disclosure, James Blake, Grimes, Janelle Monae and NYC locals Interpol, Julian Casblancas, TV on the Radio and Sleigh Bells. Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, Haerts, Bastille, Chance the Rapper, The Internet as well as Odd Future guys Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt.
While I’ve seen a lot of these guys a lot of times, it is true, still it saves me the bother of checking em out again, on the other hand if you’re not paying top dollar why bother and really is this line up that is worth $500?
Some other names: the Strokes, Broken Bells, Frank Turner… you know, it might make it in the long run just because of the smaller names…
So yeah, I’ll probably go.
