The Coinye!

Have you heard of Bitcoin? It’s a relatively new online currency that can be transferred through a computer or smartphone without a financial institution. I am not sure how much it is used or secure (as if anything was secure on the internet!) but it is an invisible digital currency and according to a recent article of the NY Times, each new Bitcoin is worth as much as $1,100. But I still don’t really understand how they are created (miner softwares that solve algorithms, what is that?) nor why there is so much fluctuation in their value.

Anyway, people found funny to create a Bitcoin at the effigy of Kayne West… What a logic evolution, before you would see kings and queens’ heads on money, then presidents’ heads,…so why not Kayne, or last vestige of royalty and power? However, far from being honored, Yeezus did not appreciate it at all , and his lawyers have taken action to shut down the virtual currency called Coinye West. It’s true that the creators of the coin had pushed the Internet joke  a bit far, as the ‘coin’ features a cartoony image of Kanye as a fat fish wearing his trademark shades. According to the Wall Street Journal, his lawyers have ‘filed cease-and-desist papers against the seven anonymous coders’ who created the coins last week. They claim that the coin is a form of trademark infringement: ‘Given Mr. West’s wide-ranging entrepreneurial accomplishments, consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that Mr. West is the source of your services’.

I see, if the thing had come from Kayne himself, you would have seen it promoted everywhere but since he does benefit a penny from it it’s another story! Nevertheless, the coin creators are not backing up, they just changed the name to just Coinye (still obviously recognizable) and moved their website to India.

‘We want to release this to the public before the man can try to crush it. They’ll still come after us, but that’s OK’, declared one of them.

This is a very funny story, there’s no harm to Kanye, it just harms his ego and this must piss him off because he can’t benefit of it! ‘Mr. West is an internationally renown musical artist, songwriter, producer, film director and fashion designer, to name just a few of Mr. West’s endeavors, wrote one of his lawyers, a very pretentious declaration as usual, but they have to understand that it was precisely why he chose the guy for the coin, because of his fame and excessive ego! I don’t know if this virtual currency is really going to take off but in this case, are we going to make our future transactions using Coinye West, Bono Euro, $immon$ or Jay Z-Green? Some rock-rap stars have already names made ready for the game (50 Cents, Ke$ha, Nickleback and probably may others) so they are asking for it!
