I recently stumbled upon a band called Dowsing, and I can’t get enough of them.  They’re an indie band from Chicago who have a hint of pop punk, a dash of indie, and a load of talent.  The trio sure knows how to utilize their skill sets to create a fantastic and unique sound.

“Amateur Cartography” is the first tune I ever heard by them.  The guitar is captivating and the drums and bass fit together so simply.  The vocals are perfect.  They’re raw and strong and feel so pure, which is hard to find.  Put together, this was all it took to get me hooked on the band.  Then the group vocals came in.  That’s when I knew there was something special about these guys; usually group vocals sound lame or stupid, but these are great.  I knew I had to listen to more.

“Driving” was the next song I fell in love with.  It’s one of those songs you have to turn up all the way and close your eyes to really experience it right.  It feels so warm and like summer, and the harsh vocals contrast this and reminds me of Brand New circa “Your Favorite Weapon”.  It’s such a crescendo and it’s unexpected and brilliant.  The passion is so evident and that’s something that’s just beautiful about Dowsing- they don’t hold back.  That’s what makes them stand out so much, and it’s wonderful.

As if I wasn’t already a massive fan, “Maxwell” shows an entirely different side of the group.  It’s so gentle and calm, and just lovely.  It shows versatility and that makes this group even more impressive.  It seems as though there’s not a single aspect of their genre that they can’t explore successfully.  It’s really surprising and rare.

Check them out.
