Like most people, I’ll give into the right sentimental dribble if it plays off the right fantasy for me. Because, really, in 2013 as much and maybe, just because there is si much of it, more than ever, the dream machine is still way busy selling dreams of love and life everlasting though in my 57 years on this planet, I haven’t found either to be the case.
But fantasy is fantasy and, not a million miles away from the Matrix grid warning, we are being drip dried fantasy to keep us, and by us I mean the Western civilization middle class, junk to ease our minds into the arms of oblivion and really, there are worse ways to live your life than in a dream. It might be irritating once you get up close to real life and smell the stench, but other than that, why not dream with your fellow man till death comes and becomes the master of all. Since life has no meaning, since it all boils down to “and what if I do? and what if i don’t?”, why fight the dream that everything matters including, and especially, me? Since I know it doesn’t.
Or why fight the dream that Susan Boyle, who won the magic to fame and fortune, and Elvis, who burnt his to ash, got together and sang a Christmas song? It doesn’t sound very good but surely the target demo is similar, right? And the video, I lost interest after around 30 seconds but there appeared to be some children.
Unfortunately for Susan, it is the wrong fantasy for me. I always find singing with ghosts scary and this isn’t a particularly inspired sample from Presley’s religious music. Pass.
