I’ve seen seen Pearl Jam several times and found them terrific precisely once.
And that probably has more to do with nostalgia than anything human.
Of all the overrated bands that ever roamed the earth, Pearl Jam were the best. Not the overearnestness of U2, not the bedwetting of Coldplay, not the aching bones of the Stones. They kept to the size they wanted but they ran out of songs.
So Vedder’s announcement in Spain over the weekend that this would “…be our last concert in a long time. Not forever, but a long time”, hits me as tidings of great joy.
Only problem is they all suck solo. The highlight of all the exes entire career is Vedder’s song with Nusrat Ali Khan off the “Dead Man Walking” soundtrack -can’t remember what it is called. Vedder’s latest, can’t remember what it is called either though I could prolly find it on my ipod if you insisted, -it’s from the new Julia Roberts , “Eat, Sleep, Fat” or some rubbish like that, is musical wallpaper for the mind. So inconsequential it floats into the atmosphere like ether and festers there. Like all those self righteous like Eclipsey bands out there. Vedder sounds different than Muse, but they all tooting the same fucking horn.
So good riddance Pearl Jam. See you in a coupla years.
