40 Years Later, Emerson Lake and Palmer Still Turn You On

mmmm salad

OK, maybe not.  But the classic album Brain Salad Surgery is celebrating its 40th anniversary and let’s face it.  You fucking love this album.

There is a lame school of thought that ELP sucked.  This ‘prog rock’ scene seems so very dated now.  Not unlike the Moody Blues, they get a lot of flack.  Well I am here to tell you that this album (and the band for this matter kick ass)

The most known ‘Still…You Turn Me On” has the harpsichord of fun and the wahnka wahnka 70s sound that sealed it’s fate as a classic.  OK, sure some of the album sucks.  We need only to venture to ‘Benny The Bouncer’ for an instant migraine.

Welcome back my friends to the oddly titled ” Karn Evil 9 First Impression Part 2 has funded these guys retirements.  Karn Evil- Carnival …get it kid?  Yeah, see it was that hip jive talking that put this band on my forever cool list.  Can we take a moment to discuss how fucking cool the album cover is?  Yup.. album cover- I’m all retro tastic, man.

ELP say: “We are amazed that after 40 years, so much of the original recordings, photos and artwork are still usable. Some of it has never been released before, but it’s fascinating to hear how the recordings progressed. We are delighted that this new version will reveal some of these transitions.”

Sony Music / Legacy Recordings add: “Brain Salad Surgery will receive a 40th anniversary celebration worthy of its genre-defining place in history.

“It’s an album that saw Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer displaying more creativity than most bands achieve in their whole lifetime.”

Look its just a hopped up version of what us old timers loved (though let’s be clear I was only 7 when this came out-so some of us kids are into it as well).

Packaged in the famous artwork by HR Giger, the new edition will include 5.1 mixes, previously unreleased material you’re looking at April 7th before you can own it.  Sit tight.
