Marina Abramovic and Lady Gaga have apparently a long history together, Gaga went to see the performing artist at MoMa during her ‘The Artist is Present’ in 2010, then, last summer, she spent a few days at Abramovic’s studio in Hudson, adopting her famous method, doing all kinds of crazy stuff, probably paying a fortune to get bitten by mosquitoes sitting naked in a forest. What a crazy joke if you want my opinion, but again I think Abramovic is a pretentious and narcissistic woman, so I can’t relate to anything like this!
‘The idea was that artists, even blindfolded, have to have vision like a blind man, Abramovic explained at the time, ‘To feel with their entire body … She was in the fields and then the forest and by her pure intuition she had to find her way back home … During this exercise, completely of her own initiative, she took off her clothes. She just wanted to be in nature and to feel the elements.’
Abramović was even worried about Gaga getting Lyme disease from the ticks in the area, and that would have been quite an interesting turn of event! During these 3 days, Lady Gaga chose to give up everything, including a bad little habit of hers as the fame monster recalled:
‘She [Marina] said, ‘OK, you’re coming to my house. No television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art’
Once again, it is no big deal to turn off your cell and TV for 3 days!! Come on! And I am pretty sure this is not true she didn’t eat anything at all. So now Gaga is claiming everywhere she quitted marijuana cold turkey because of Marina:
‘I cold-turkeyed. For weeks and weeks, I didn’t smoke at all. And now I smoke a little bit at night, just, you know, for fun – but not to cope. That’s the difference. Marina was the only person who could get me to do that, and it was not intended to be rehab.’
Well, if she is still smoking at night, whatever the amount and reason why she is smoking, she didn’t really quit. But I get it, the two women are using each other’s unusual fame. When Gaga showed up at Abramovic’s show in 2010, the performing artist told MTV News she had never heard of Gaga before… whether it was true or not, it was a golden opportunity, as soon as she became aware of Gaga, Twitter exploded and suddenly Gaga’s young audience discovered Abramovic’s show at MoMa. It was the biggest publicity Marina ever got
Since, Abramovic hasn’t stopped praising Gaga: ‘she is a true original’, ‘I felt like she was my daughter’, ‘she has everything it takes to make it’, ‘I found somebody who can really be a spokesman for something that means so much to me’… it’s a ‘love fest’, and this new declaration by Gaga that wonderful Marina helped her quit marijuana, is again excellent publicity for the performing artist… she just could start another $600,000 Kickstarter campaign to create her phony institute (as she did this summer), she would raise the money again, especially since she has also indoctrinated Jay-Z.
