MGMT “Alien Days” Video Review

pas de latte’

There  are a few things we need to say straight off the bat (Red Sox World Series Winner Bat..woot!)

1-Mgmt are handsome.  Very

2- Aliens are cool

3- European countryside is a great place to shoot a video

Now that’s out of the way lets get down to business. Mgmt is a band I want to lie alot- but the horrid hipster tag hangs on them like a clearance tag at Nordstroms.  The issue here is they are worth liking despite the fashionable monicker.   But I shun them just the same.  This video is the perfect love and hate combination that makes me enjoy writing a review.

As mentioned its visually pleasant.  The wife birthing caviar for the aliens delight is unexpected and goofy but step back and admire the female aliens dance.  THAT is impressive.  What a fabulous dancer!  Georgina Pazcoguin of the NYC Ballet absolutely owns this video despite the attempts for pretty boys and awkward themes to overshadow her roll.  Blending strength and sensuality she elevates this five minute video to a work of art…and thus pushes it right into hipster land.

I appreciate that Mgmt opted to run credits at the end of their video (though it is a bit presumptuous but then again so are they) if only because it allowed me to find Pazcoguins bio.  By the way- she’s a massive hipster so..go figure.

As always I listen to the song without the video just to get a clearer opinion…and here is what I have determined.

The song is awesome- the video is predictable..Pazcoguin is a Goddess and I’ll forget all about this in like 20 minutes.  Someone go fetch me a latte’.

  1. It’s Art. Leave it be. It isn’t “presumptuous” to have credits at the end of the video. They wanted to give credit to everyone that made it. Fuck off with the hipster tag bullshit. They are artists. Musicians are artists. She pushes the video to another level because of the grace and the ownership she put into her dance. Nothing about this is wrong except trying to perpetuate the “hipster” term. Let the term die! I’m so tired of hearing that term stuck on things/people. Have a great day.
