Anto Morra hides his name in the abbreviation. Anthony Morrissey makes sure everyone knows he is The Moz’s second cousin. Before we go any further they havent even met. Before I go even less further the Irish/London bit has been owned by his cuz with “Irish Blood English Heart”.
That all out of the way we can concentrate on the tune and video. Been called a “Limey Cockney” scum? No you havent who the hell are you kidding. I love the British Irish pride and I love the pub sing along, but c’mon it’s 2013. This shit does well in decades past but now? Silly sorta.
What I find worse than the weak lyric is the really bad fiddle. I mean super duper bad. Maybe it’s Anton’s child? If so Im sorry but otherwise..whoa.
That being said if Morrisseys name wasnt hooked on to this I wouldnt have listened. I dig the Pogues and I love ‘pub’ chants but this one seems far to contrived. Like, ‘lets find a song to cheer too!’. I adore National pride, most likely cuz I have none. This song is great in your county, your local, your social…it is not mainstream enough to make it big anywhere but Antons back alley, and that’s ok.
A quick hop arround Morra’s site pretty much confirms this is his genre and there he is happy to be. Good for him! I do wish him well, I do admire him for not exploiting the Morrissey connection (too much) and well. Yeah. It’s different! OH!! and the video is sorta cure in a folksy way…plus it shows Joe Strummer Subway!
